Update of wintering support for people affected by the earthquake in Mirpur district, Kashmir province

During last week, JEN continued organizing coordination meeting and shared result of beneficiary selection (identification and registration) and NFI (non-food item) distribution plan with provincial government. We also hired new members and all staffs are working hard in the field.

For the winterized tent, initially the plan was to distribute for 550 households. Though, the needs of this item was extremely high and therefore coordinated with other aid organizations, conducted urgent meeting with assistant governor and agreed to distribute another 90 tents.

By the previous week, beneficiary selection for all 640 households were completed and 410 winterized tents were distributed. Including the previous progress, 480 households in total received tents and NFI items. In addition, 6 female volunteers from the community joined us and supported JEN’s field team for beneficiary selection.

On the other hand, our preliminary assessment showed that many people, regardless of gender, are having psychological distress due to the damage of house, family/friends, livestock and loss of other resources. To respond this situation, we started psychosocial support from last week. Our psychologist conducted visits to household and distribution venue to identify people having anxiety for reestablish their life from earthquake damage.

On 4th February, we completed distribution of winterized tents and NFI items to the remaining 160 households, and reached 640 households in total. The next activity will be the monitoring of usage for the distributed item.

JEN highly appreciate your continuously support.
