Rehabilitation of water spring

In Bas Gerard in Leogane where JEN works on the project, we have started rehabilitation of water spring since May according to the agreement of DINEPA (Direction Nationale de l’Eau Potable et de l’Assainissement), which was based on field research. Although spring box is covered by concrete, there was a high risk of contamination from outside because contaminated water might flow into from the damaged place. It is necessary to rehabilitate for the box to supply safe water as people in Bas Gerard ensure water from this water spring through kiosk shaped water facilities or private water pipes. By rehabilitating the spring box this time, it is not only prevented inflow of contaminated to the water source, but it also increases the flow capacity of water.

Moreover, during my visit, it can be seen many mangos that have been harvested. Mango is not rare fruits but familiar to local people since we can see everywhere in the village. The number of mango is obviously too much compared to population in Bas Gerard. Some mangos are left under the tree during the harvest season.
