Repair of a water network

What comes to your mind at the word “assistance for providing safe water to people”? Most of you might imagine construction of wells with hand pumps and water tanks.

In the project this year, JEN Haiti office repaired a water network. The network is connected to water facilities such as Kiosks in local communities. While it might not be so well known as wells with water pumps and water tanks, construction of water network is one of the forms of assistance to provide safe water. Water network brings water from water resources (which sometimes exist far away from communities) to people’s residential areas, so that they do not have to go far away to draw water.

Thanks to support from the Japanese government and our supporters, JEN Haiti office has repaired a water network of 6 km this year. Some parts of the old water network were clogged up with garbage, and had some broken pieces such as fitting parts and valves. The repaired water network is now functional and bringing safe water to people in Mathieu, Palmes Region in the West Department of Haiti.
