Trainings for hygiene promotion volunteers

A series of trainings for hygiene promotion volunteers is one of the main activities of JEN Haiti. JEN has given hygiene promotion trainings to local volunteers, and then they will convey the knowledge to people in their local communities. JEN has finished a series of trainings which started from December 2013, and this month the volunteers received their certificates of completion of the trainings.

141002_2Our trainings include how to wash hands, how to use toilets, importance of safe drinkable water, and how to prevent diseases such as cholera, malaria, dengue and chikungunya. For example, regarding prevention of cholera, the volunteers learn the importance of drinking water of kiosks, not dirty water on the road or unclean streams, as well as using toilettes properly and washing hands before eating something. They also learn how to make ORS (Oral Rehydration Salts), which prevents patients of cholera from dehydration.

141002_3While diseases such as cholera, malaria, dengue and chikungunya are widely prevalent in Haiti, these are preventable if people know the right way to prevent. It is people’s desire to have healthy life without suffering these infectious diseases and improve hygienic conditions of their communities. For that purpose, JEN has been working here in Haiti, and from now on, the volunteers we have trained will take an important role to act out the desire in their communities.
